Please support the Freelancer Payment Protection Act

February 6, 2012

As many of you already know, this blog was created to raise awareness about the mistreatment of employees by TwentyAt CEO Paul Misir. Misir refuses to pay several former employees, including freelance workers, wages that total in the many tens of thousands of dollars.

The greater story is that this mistreatment of freelance workers happens all the time. Freelancers currently do not have the same protections as regular employees, and companies have taken advantage of this. But Freelancers Union is hoping to end this abuse, and together we can make this happen. Please support the The Freelancer Payment Protection Act.

The Freelancer Payment Protection Act (S4129/A6698) would:

  • Grant freelancers the same wage protection as traditional employees.
  • Require the Department of Labor to pursue freelancers’ unpaid wages.
  • Hold deadbeat executives personally liable for up to $20,000 and jail time.

Please sign your name to the petition and feel good that you are helping to create stronger protections for hard-working people.

I support this Payment Protection act as there are a lot of employers out there who think that +freelancers work for free! Or better yet, they don’t value the work of creative freelancers and there for take advantage of working freelancers!
